2008 Blogging Goals
The year 2008 is almost here and it’s time to set some goals. Goals that are achievable and realistic. I have been blogging for a couple months and honestly, until now I haven’t had any goals besides increasing reader numbers ( it’s still one of the goals for 2008 ). I have come to realize that goal setting is a major part of any project, for being a 25 year old I guess I am realizing it a little too late. Anyways, I have some goals set as a blogger for 2008 and blogging in general.
Here are some of my goals that I would like to achieve as a blogger in 2008. These goals are in no order, each of them is a goal I want to attain sometimes during the year 2008 and each holds equal importance.
Read More Blogs
The best way to become a good blogger is by reading other blogs. I read quite a few blogs now but I would like to increase that number. The reason for this is simple - to learn and become better at what I am trying to do and that is blogging.
Also, the goal of reading more blogs doesn’t mean just the popular blogs. There are hundreds of new blogs that have such good content and we seem to ignore them for one reason - they are new. I am going to set aside some time each day to find new blogs and read what new bloggers have to write. One of the way to find new blogs is by simply visting the comment section on most blogs. A lot of commentators on popular blogs are new bloggers ( most of the time ) who are there in the hopes of getting traffic. So one of my goals is to read more blogs including new ones.
Comment On Other Blogs
I have to admit, although I like to see comments on my own blog it’s one thing I pass most of the time after I read a post on other blogs. I am in fault here. If I enjoy something I should make an effort to thank the blogger and share something that I might have to add. Afterall the blogger wrote it for us, the readers. So giving back a few words isn’t certainly going to take anything off of my time.
Network At Home
What I mean by “Network At Home” is, I want to network with my readers. I want to build a relationship between me and my readers as a person, as a social being. I network enough on social networking sites, don’t get me wrong, it still is important but sometimes you need to cater to your own family. In 2008 I want to build a relationship between us - me and you readers.
If you are a new blogger and need help with anything that you think I can help you with, feel free to contact me using the contact form on this blog. I will answer and do what I can to help you.
Guest Posting For New Bloggers
When I started blogging I wanted to explore new opportunities with guest posting. I have been lucky to find some good blogs to guest post on and have gained some friends through them. I would like to extend that opportunity to new bloggers at Work N Play. Although, Work N Play isn’t a very popular blog, if you are new you can certainly get some attention by guest posting on this blog.
So if you are thinking about starting a blog or already have and feel like guest posting somewhere, remember the doors are always open for you here
Increase Readership
Well, here’s what all of us want - increased readership. I am certainly not going to hold contests or anything of that sort to attract readers. I would be happy with 5 readers who come to read what I write than to have 50 who come to get something and leave after couple days.
I want to achieve this goal by being more effective in what I write and how I write. This ties in with the first goal. I want to read more blogs and learn from other bloggers on how readers respond to certain things. You might notice, I have been writing about blogging a lot lately and I am not sure if I want to focus just on that or write about other things. When I started this blog the main focus was to bring information about new websites and web application to the readers and now I have shifted. I would like to provide value to readers not just the bloggers. So in 2008, one of my goal is to share my experiences on different things and bring information that might help the readers in one way or the other. If I can provide value and utility to readers, increasing the readership number is attainable.
Create A WordPress Theme
I have finally gotten my hands into CSS and all that good stuff. I have been playing with a theme for a couple days now and so far it’s going good. I would like to release the theme by the end of 2008. I know, it shouldn’t take that long and there are hundreds of theme out there but I want to experience the satisfaction of giving something and something really good.
Use Work N Play for Charity
I have been trying to earn some money through this blog and I have made some. In 2008 I would like to support charities. I am more focused towards children who need us. I would like to donate a certain percentage of my earnings in 2008 to help children. I am not sure how much this blog will make but I know every little bit can help. This is one of the most important goal I want to achieve from or through this blog.
There you go! There are a couple more goals I have but some of them I am not sure how attainable they are. As for now I am sticking with these and working towards them in 2008.
Do you have any goals that you think might help you and others through the wonderful medium of blogging? Share with us.

I am really digging this list. It is not only plausible but it also is focused and not completely center on yourself. Kudos!
Warren,
Thanks for stopping by!
My main goal is to grow together with other bloggers and build a community. I would like to know my readers more and connect with them.
I try to visit commenters and see what they have on their blogs or websites.
Personally, I have found this one of the best ways to find new bloggers and find some great content that’s hidden deep in the blogosphere.
Ritu, you were there at my site blogroll once, even knowing this fact you were hardly paying any visits to my site. Your speed of reaching “there†is a bit fast. You concentrating making new visitors to your site but I barely see you around blogshare. Yeah the post is nice.
Shanker,
I am sorry you feel that way. But like I said one of my goal is to read more blogs in 2008.
Also the thing about blogroll. I wasn’t even aware that you had me in your blogroll, thanks. But I think blogrolls are something where you add blog links that you like reading and want others to check them out. Personally, I don’t think somebody needs to check out other blogs only because they have been listed in their blogroll.
Also all my goals I have set for 2008 is achievable. I don’t think any of them are something that I am trying to reach too fast. And yes I am concentrating in getting new visitors ( don’t we all ) and I am not sure what exactly you mean by not seeing me around blogshare. I am actively promoting and reading new blogs lately. If you are talking about me being inactive in BC, I still pop in there every once in a while but just haven’t had much time to hang out in there.
Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with me. Take care!
A nice set of goals. I admire you for taking on the role of “blog mentor” to newer bloggers. I know you made things easier for us at blinkdagger by being so helpful. So if you’re a new blogger looking to get started, you should know that Ritu is a great resource!
Thanks for the kind words Quan
Great Post,. I agree, I like this post because it is all not centered around yourself. Blogging is about sharing. I love reading other Blogs, I like to see where they are going Blogging wise and their thoughts on various subjects (mostly business since its my main topic of interest)
…Personally, I don’t think somebody needs to check out other blogs only because they have been listed in their blogroll….Ritu can you a sense of little bit “Exasperation” here while you were trying to teach me the ABC of Blogrolling
If what quan said is true, then maybe we can have a little talk, Ritu :). As for the blogroll thing: I think a blogroll is merely a section of a blog where you can show some link love to other people - you like a blog, you may link to it. Anyway, stop flamin` - its almost Christmas
Jackie,
I am glad you liked the post. Also thanks for pointing out “Chicken Soup For Network Marketer’s Soul” in your blog. I know now what I should read next
Shanker,
I am not trying to teach anybody anything Shanker. That’s why I used the word “Personally”.
hts,
If there is anything I can help you with feel free to contact me using the contact form on this blog.
And I am not flaming. I simply gave my opinion. That’s all.
Nice easy read, feels like you are relating to your reader as opposed to preaching. Keep up the good work. Read three blogs you never read before and ask them to read three and who knows where it will go.
Happy Holidays!
ibpurpledragon,
Thanks for stopping by and thanks for the tip. reading three or more blogs everyday is certainly attainable.
Love this list because it is similar to mine and I suspect a lot of other bloggers.
[...] Work n Play - 2008 Blogging Goals [...]
You present a good idea as far as setting goals for ‘08 blogging.
Admittedly I started blogging to try and earn extra income. Several attempts at this turned me into a slave of checking my stats, and my writing was terrible.
This time around I’ve decided to write for myself. I’ve gotten rid of every other online social networking account and figured a blog would be a great place to channel all that extra time on my hands. Besides, the last thing we really need is another self help post. I doubt I will ever make any real attempt at income from writing, but I have a lot more fun doing it. I wonder though, is it only bloggers that read blogs?
