Blogging and Networking - The Way I See It

We all differ from each other in one way or the other and so does our opinion and views on certain things. Blogging is seen by some as a money making machine and by some as the perfect tool to network and open new opportunities, I fall under the second category. As bloggers we all write for readers, we try to write what we think the readers might enjoy or value. We try to provide information in the form of entertainment or knowledge so as to cater to our reader’s needs. But sometimes it becomes essential to share how we see things from our own eyes.

While I was at my day job, I was constantly asking myself as to what blogging is and how we can climb the ladder of success. I came with a few answer and these answers reflects me as a blogger. Some might agree and some might not but again this post is about Blogging and Networking - The Way I See It ;-) .

Here are a few questions I asked myself and as you can imagine answered it as well. Just thought I would share it with you and get your opinion and what you think of them. Are we alike or just as I said in the beginning, does our views differ when it comes to blogging and networking?

What is Blogging about?

- Blogging isn’t just about you. It’s about you, the readers and your network as a whole. Blogging is about building a community where you, the blogger, serves as the leader of the community.

Blogging = You + The Readers + The Community

Do we need money to make a Blog successful?

- Building a successful blog doesn’t require a penny to be spent. The key to a successful blog depends on time well spent, learning from the growing pains and catering to the needs of your audience.

Successful Blog = Time + Growing Pains + Audience

Should making money from a Blog be the Top Priority?

- Don’t worry about making money directly from your blog, think how you can maximize the opportunities because of it. Using it as a stepping stone to maximize other opportunities is a surefire way to earn and become successful in the long run.

I asked Skellie ( Skelliewag, Anywired ) a question when I interviewed her quite a while ago. I am going to use her answer to give mine a little support :-)

Ritu - I haven’t seen any advertisemnts on your blog or affiliate links nor an advertise page? So this blog isn’t set up as a source of income, is it?

Skellie - I make money because of my blog, not through it. I do a lot of freelance blogging, and it’s work I never would have received without Skelliewag to back me up and open new opportunities. A lot of my clients are also readers. I think there’s heaps of potential in making money indirectly through blogging, something that hasn’t yet been adequately explored.

Top Priority = Maximizing Other Opportunities for the Long Run

How can a Blog grow?

- The premise of a blog shouldn’t lie upon making money. The overall growth of a blog depends on networking. Without an effective network, a blog is like a being without friends. Set your goals to network and growth will follow, gradually.

Blog Growth = Strong Network

How Can a Blogger be of influence?

- The most effective way to become an influence upon other bloggers is to lend a helping hand. We shouldn’t forget the very first week we started as a blogger. The need to get noticed and the craving for attention in a new blogger is as strong as the time we started. We know the feeling, so why not help. It’s a proven way to become an influential blogger.

Influential Blogger = Lends a hand + Notices new Bloggers

What is the single most important aspect of Blogging?

- Networking! We all tend to forget the power of networking. The fence around the house can only stand as long as all the links are connected. The same applies to blogging. Without a strong network Blogging as a whole is a fence on the ground.

Most important aspect of Blogging = Networking

What is the most effective way to gain traffic ?

- Commenting, Guest Posting and Emails are the three proven tools for generating traffic. If used with moderation and tweaked with one’s own personality these three tools can become a blog’s best friends.

Effective way to gain traffic = Comments + Guest Posts + Emails

If Blogging was synonymous to another word, what would it be?

- Networking!

Blogging = Networking

There it is, Blogging and Networking - the way I see it. You might have a different view and perspective towards blogging and networking. I would love to see it from your eyes as well. If you have a couple minutes, please ask these questions to yourself and answer them in the comments. If not you could always choose one.

It’s your turn to answer!

  1. Huge. my favourite part “Do we need money to make a Blog successful?”

It seems that people think you have to make money to have a great blog. I agree that using your blog as a showcase or whatever you call it without monetizing it can bring you further. I mean Skellie has no ads and yet she is a great blogger known throughout the blogosphere.

  2. Well. I don’t think blog makes money. It’s the person behind the blog that makes the money.

Without the sole, blog is just a platform with useless words. Writing a great content is the key.

    Personally. I add the following.

    Blogging = Network = Marketing = Branding

  3. “How can a Blog grow?”

I think one of the biggest mistakes that some people make when blogging is that they focus on the end result instead of the process. This sometimes leads them to try tricks that may garner quick results, increased traffic but the traffic is thin and unstable because the foundation is shaky.

It reminds me a bit of success in team sports. To use American Football as an example, you’ll win a few games by chance with a quarterback that has a good arm and can throw deep but the best way to win games over the long haul is to control the offensive and defensive lines.

In blogging, I think this correlates to doing the little things and valuing your readers and fellow bloggers.

If you add a little bit of value to everything you do online, it adds up to a whole lot at the end.

  4. “Blogging = Networking”—I never understood algebra until now. Great chain of thought, you wrote what many of us are working to accomplish. Thanks.

  5. Wow, that’s a perfect explanation from the “way you see it”..
Nothing to add, you pretty much said everything in here and most importantly you said “the right thingS” with “the right equations and explanation”..

    Really it’s a Wonderful Work!

    Best Wishes,
    - Wakish -
