Differentiating Your Blog From The Rest

Hi! It seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! Feel free to leave comments on posts!

With all the blogs on the web, it has increasingly become a challenge to stand out from the crowd. As many blogs as it is out there, it seems like no matter what topic you write about, or what niche you choose, it is most probably already explored by someone else. So how exactly do you stand out from the crowd? What are some of the ways you can differentiate yourself and your blog from the blogosphere?

I am pretty sure you have heard of quite a few of them. I will list a couple here but in this post I will share the one most and critical way to differentiate yourself from other bloggers and blog. Some of the ways to differentiate yourself are:

Attractiveness

How appealing is your blog to the readers eyes? Although most of us visit a blog for information and such, we are visual beings. Attractiveness grabs attention.

Content

Of course content is of utmost importance. Without something valuable to offer your blog is like a dead fish in an ocean. But the topic of the content might already be explored by someone else. So provide your perspective into it and differentiate yourself.

Ad Placement

See what works. We all want to make passive income ( money without working too much ) and this can be one of the best ways to monetize your blog. Make sure you optimize ad placement, do not throw it on your reader’s face. A sidebar with advertisements is pretty good as long as it doesn’t interefere with the content.

Images

Make use of images on your blog and posts. Try and make use of unique images for your subscription button and such. Also use images on your posts that really make your posts stand out. ( Don’t you think this post would have looked a little better if there was an image? Due to some technical reasons I couldn’t add image to this post. )

These are some of the things that are crucial to differentiating your blog. However, by no means this is an extensive list. I just wanted to quick point out some of the things before we got into the main factor that will help in making your blog stand out from the rest.

The best and most effective way of differentiating your blog is using your own voice rather than someone else. Don’t try and be an expert on a subject you might not have extensive knowledge about. Write your views and opinion, use your own view and voice. Be an individual not just another blogger talking about the same thing from some else’s perspective.

Use your voice when you write. Be yourself not someone else. If I visit a blog I want to read the blogger’s opinion that he himself has developed not copied from someone else. We are different individuals and we have different views, let it show on each of your posts. Using your voice will help you leverage your blogs uniqueness as it just won’t be another blog on the internet. It’s your blog that presents your views and your opinions and not someone else although it might be on a subject that can be found everywhere on the net.

Your blogs sustainability depends on you. Differentiating your blog from the rest depends on one most important thing – using your voice and not somebody else’s. Period.

One Response to “Differentiating Your Blog From The Rest”

  1. Nice post. I think content is the main thing - although good content can get overwhelmed by sloppy presentation if you’re not careful- eg overdoing the ads and widgets and stuff. You point about writing in your own voice I think is very valid (as opposed to writing what you think will do well in the search engines).
