Goodbye Entrecard and 756 Credits

If you noticed I used to have the entrecard widget on the sidebar which is no longer there. It’s been quite annoying using entrecard because of the constant messages I received on my entrecard account for exchanging points and all that stuff. Also, it seemed like the entrecard widget wasn’t doing much for anybody in terms of quality visitors. So I have decided to take the widget off and also give away 756 credits.

However, I realize that there were certain blogs that were still waiting to be shown on the widget. I would really like to apologize for taking off the widget and not being able to show your 125×125 banners. As an apology, I have listed your blog links and the description from your Entrecard profile,

Steve’s Tech Blog : Computer Gadgets, Internet, Technology, Make Money Online plus a little bit of my personal life.

Affiliate Confession : Information on affiliate marketing from someone who doesn’t make scads of cash, ony $2,500 per month, but growing.

Shakedown 2.0 : Filipino blog featuring news, opinions and reviews about the latest happenings on the internet, technology, entertainment, etc.

I Blog All : A diary of today’s technology.

Interesting Observations : Fresh Perspectives on blogging, social media and self improvement

Orangeinks : Orangeinks is about sharing relevant comments and views on articles found in the internet and information or knowledge experienced first hand.

Gadget Think : tech wonders, new gizmos, life style, design blog

Lively Money : showing the average person to win big in the stock market.

Thanks for taking the time to drop your cards guys!

If you would like to win 756 credits ( all the points I have in my account ), just leave a comment on this post on why you started blogging. I will choose one commentator and send them an email, we will go from there on transferring the credits. I will contact the winner sometimes Monday night.

If you enjoyed this post you might want to consider subscribing to my RSS Feed, or you can subscribe and receive updates in your e-mail. Thanks!

  1. Hi Ritu, I’d be glad to take those 756 credits and thanks for the link!

  2. Thanks for the link man. I’m quite sad to see you leave Entrecard. It’s a cool community and lots of good stuff and good people. If ever you need something.. feel free to contact me anytime. I will be visiting your site from time to time even without Entrecard.

  3. you are a true linkbater sometimes Ritu :)

I dropped my ‘card’ because I wasn’t sure if I was gonna get the banner made (i think) and was just learning the system; but after my ad was up here, there was no way to take that back or cancel the advertise request… but thanks for the link anyway…

  4. I’d like the credits.

Here is why I started blogging. I really hated blogs. I though by myself how can people sit all day and type a bunch of stuff. Then one day I wrote a article about something I was passionate about and I wanted to share it with the world. Suddenly it got comments and I made money. So that day I decided I would learn blogging. So I did and quit my job and jumped in the deep end of blogging. Starting with no income or very little I had to work my way up. Today I have a lot of blogs bringing in my income and I am today a very passionate blogger liking every minute of it. (well not every minute)

  5. I just started with these Entrecards .. and could always use the points. I basically started blogging when I found out that my pet’s website was getting more hits than my own site (http://PapillonLvr.com/blog/) and I even opened up a store under their domain! However, in May 2005 I changed my thinking and figured I would sell real estate (advertising) instead of products that were accumulating in my basement.

  6. I am very happy with EC. Yes, there is a lot of traffic just dropping their cards, but my stats are simple: Traffic has tripled, bounce rate and page views per visit have stayed the same or slightly decreased, hence I take it that my sticky traffic has also tripled. I drop much less than I’m dropped on. My incoming versus outgoing drop ratio is like 5:1. In the end I considered it rude to just drop by literally speaking, so I stopped doing that. However I do drop by my regular advertisers and I am very very very selective as to who I let advertise on my widget. You can say that I am trying to attract or build a relationship with certain advertisers. I want readers, not traffic. EC has worked for me, but I think I may want to take it off once I have built a substantial visitor base.

  7. Edit previous comment: Bounce rate has slightly decreased, but page views per visitor have slightly INcreased. Tricky language this English :-)

  8. I wonder how come you are not getting quality visitors, as I just explained Entrecard works like online advertising - all visitors come clicking your ad won’t be potential customers. I don’t think this traffic must be causing you any extra bandwidth even. If the real estate of your blog is so important to you that you cannot host the entrecard widget, then probably it would make sense to me [though this is unlikely reason]

I have been meeting so many new blogs of my niche, and I subscribed to many of them. But yes, here I have chosen quality blog, regularly updated ones to subscribe. So here I myself call as quality visitor for those blogs, but even if this blogger received 100 visitors, and received one reader like me, it’s still better conversion for a blogger I believe.

Anyways, I just tried to convey my two cents about traffic. When I started blogging, my first motive was to understand the Google adsense system. This is very interesting story.

I was working on one of the projects with ebay inc, and got close to internet advertising domain. This domain attracted me so much, specially when I came to know how Google makes money with help of advertisers and publishers. I had nothing to advertise so I chose to be a publisher to understand their system. The only little thing I could start with is a blog, back there in 2004. As I started knowing the system and rest affiliate programs, I started many blogs, personal, technical, finance etc. Mainly those niche, where I could write something everyday.

And since then, I have seen so many ups and down. Right from Blogger deleting few of my quality blogs to I am making $3000+ a month with these online money making programs.

So this is how my story went on! Hope you liked it. I did not write all this to get your cleaning the closet credits, but still I would not mind part of it - to use for my 500 EC give away contest at http://www.lifeiscolourful.com - so I can give 2-3 more prizes to deserving bloggers.

Wish you all the best with your blog!

  9. Lifeiscolourful, your blog froze my browser and caused my TrendMicro to issue a bunch of spyware and trojan warnings before shutting down my PC :-(

  10. I heard about it before and in between it was fixed, I would like to know more about it Kopi, if you don’t mind - could you please send me the screenshots or any other useful information about it to lifeiscolourful.com@gmail.com

  11. I’m making a post about this to be published on Monday. I’ll also link to your post. Your Entrecard will be much appreciated. bloggingmix@gmail.com

    Cheers,
    Rocky

  12. I started blogging as a release, I have been working from home for 5+ years now and was getting tired of the work I was doing. After some research, I decided blogging would be nice hobby. I have since turned it into my main source of income and have grown from a personal blog to a business blog about to be part of a new blog network.

Blogging is a stress reliever for me, even writing about how to get your pots really really clean helps relieve stress from my day. Having people rad and comment helps even more!

  13. I just wanted to write about the little travel I have in my daily life- whether its to the bus, to downtown, or on a plane to catch a sunrise in Nepal’s mountains.

Btw, I think you should just give back the entrecard credits to the people who were supposed to show up on your widget instead of giving them away as a prize. You can just do that you know. I think that’s the fairest thing. John Cow left and never gave me back my credits.

  14. Hey there, cool blog, I read about your contest over at BC, and just had to come over to enter. =)

I started blogging because I was depressed, and really needed to vent some baggage, from there, I have matured a bunch, started writing a better quality blog, and now am into photography, and it’s really been taking off. That and I started blogging because, frankly I needed friends. I had moved out of my hometown that I lived in for 18 years, and being somewhere new, I didn’t know anyone, that and I am a stay at home mom, so I don’t really get the chance to go out and meet people. So I needed friends, and quite frankly, I got them now, the best friends I have are online ones now.

Anyhoo cool blog, that’s too bad about Entrecard, but hopefully you find some success through something else. :)

  15. So sad to see you go. I don’t do a lot of dropping of my business E-card either, but I do visit the sites that are relevant to mine and I have developed relationships with those site owners.

I started blogging because there were times when I would rant and rave to my friends about things that in general peed me off about life, the economy, our president, etc.

For me, blogging is like having my own newspaper or magazine, it actually grew from my owning my own weekly newsletter, Teasa’s Tips & Techniques.

I’ll admit, financially I do ok with blog, but that’s ok. I just enjoy sharing information about making money from blogging with my readers. I read, research, try out different techniques, and I share the info. I know, not really exciting.

But, blogging is a love of mine. I just love doing it. All my free time is devoted to doing something with my blogs. I guess my blogs are like the dogs I don’t have. I have to clean up poop (redesigning ads and what not); I try to potty train them (reaching out to others to get them to subscribe to my RSS feeds); I walk them (writing daily about whatever is on my mind); I get them groomed (spell check is awesome).

I’d like to win the 756 Entrecard credits, take a few for myself, and share the rest with a new blogger who wants to make money online.

  16. I started blogging for two reasons.

First, because I am starting a business. I am in the product development stage for a consumer item that I will need to have manufactured. It is a long-term project to get my idea all the way to market. After all that time and effort, I do not want to launch my product and website to deafening silence! I decided I’d better start NOW in learning about and participating in the online community. I want to develop an online presence so that when the time does come for me to start selling, I’ll have a network - however small - of interested people willing to give my product a try, a review, a mention or at least a nod.

Second, I started blogging because I’ve always loved to write, and this blog is the perfect outlet for me! It suits the style of writing that I think I’m best at - short personal essays. Before I started my blog I thought long and hard about what its focus should be. After all, I’m not a business expert - not yet, anyway! I figured that the only thing I’m an expert in is ME - so I would chronicle my observations and experiences as I work to get this business going. What I learn, what I read, what I do, what I think is all a part of what I write about.

So far it’s been an extraordinary and wonderful experience. My blog readership is small - painfully small! - but growing. Bloggers are generally supportive and friendly, and I count the friendships I’ve made online to be every bit as rewarding as those I make in real life. Leo LaPorte was right about blogging: it IS all about the community!

I would love your Entrecard points to buy myself Entrecard ads on some of the bigger sites, and to hopefully get more traffic and ultimately more subscribers. Thanks for giving us all the opportunity to use them.

    Anne

  17. I started blogging because I love music, and I wanted to share how I felt about it with other people. It’s also a good way for me to look more deeply into what I listen to.

As for my other blog, I started it because I wanted a place to voice my personal thoughts, and maybe promote my writing a little at the same time.

Sad to see you leave EC, but good luck with whatever else you do!

  18. [...] Cow who made his last drop of Entrecard, Becky who also dropped her Entrecard and Ritu who bid goodbye to Entrecard and is giving away all his credits are among the few Bloggers who gave up on Entrecard. Here are [...]

  19. I started blogging in 2001 after a failed long-term relationship. I needed a way to work out my emotions at the time, and blogging seemed like a good idea. I discovered I had a talent for writing, and i’ve been blogging ever since.

  20. I fell sick to a terrible disease in early year 2007, I was limited only to my room taking rest whole day and that’s how I put myself into this world of blogging.
I’m perfectly alright by now and quite addicted to this blogging thing :)

  21. Your decision has taken my attention on this issue. EntreCard might be another failure.

I started blogging because I am a web developer and that’s part of my life. I don’t know your 756 credits you are giving away will still have value or not. Apparently the price increase like a tsunami.

    Regards,
    Binh

  22. I am crazy having my blog visible and entrecard has proven that my blog is gaining audience. So if you want to donate those points I am willing to accept them so I could advertise in those expensive ad sites.

Blogging was my way to get rid of boredom when I worked in the Sahara, since Iam not so used to it my first entries were fotos, but looking back they really speak so much of my state then more than any words and I could still feel the sense of ennui whenever i look at them.

My concern though is that blogs these days seemed so much focused on earning rather than expressing yourself. Well tides of change, online journaling/diary writing/blogging has taken a new face.

Social network ought to be monetized so people have to have lots of networks and should belong to all social networks, quantity is supreme over quality, well that is the case now. But still I do believe that it can be made more virtually up close and personal.

Blog romantic not a blog pragmatic here!

  23. I have contacted the winner via email :-). thanks for your comments guys!
