Networking In a Nutshell
Hi! It seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! Feel free to leave comments on posts!
This is probably one of the shortest post here on Work N Play. I just wanted to write one paragraph on how to effectively network as a blogger and what networking is.
In my opinion,
Before you start writing an email asking for something, you need to realize the person receiving it might not want to be at the giving end. You have as much to offer as the person you are emailing, you just need to dig in deep and see your own capabilities. The essence of networking lies in giving first and receiving second. So before you go asking, allow your resources to kick in so you can offer something first. Chances are you will receive something back without having to ask. The process of give and take without expectation, that’s networking!
What’s your take? How do you see networking as a blogger?

Interesting that you should post this question, since I wrote about it just a few days ago.
In a nutshell? Friendship. Give and take is great, but what you’re really after is a relationship.
The best way to grow a business is to give give and give. People will notice your genuine attitude and will reciprocate.
Good job ritu…
In general, I completely agree that the more you give, the more likely you are to receive. This makes a great general policy.
However, research into cognitive studies does show that if you make a small, easily fulfilled, specific request of someone and if they agree to fulfill it that they are likely to assist you when asked in the future than if you had done them a small favor.
While this is somewhat counterintuitive, what happens is the brain has to “justify” taking the small action to assist you. Once this justification is made, the brain will tend to rely upon it in the future.
Much of the success of marketing “squeeze” pages is that they prompt you to simply provide an email address. Once you’ve done that you’ve become invested.
To put this into the world of blogging, I’d say that asking people directly to consider signing up for your RSS feed goes a long way towards building a network and a loyal blog following.
Yep. I agree with all of you. I’d like to add that if you treat your online relationships like your offline ones, you have long lasting relationships.
I have to agree. Just as an example, today I contacted a blog owner who has a few thousand subscribers and offered my services as a guest blogger. Instead of asking how he pays, I offered him a free post and if he likes it, we could then discuss a future collaboration. Well, he looked at my site, my gigs and said he was very interested in my services.
I think you are right Ritu by saying we should give something first instead of asking.

@ LaTease : True!
@ Pat : Thank you for agreeing. I think we both know how this works as we have both have had experience regarding this
