Peek Into A Blogger’s Life
I am ready to let it all out. It’s time for me to share with other bloggers and for other bloggers to share it with me. What am I talking about? The burning question that I come across everytime I read a blog is what does the blogger do beside blogging? I am pretty sure you have the same questions arising in your mind as well. Most popular bloggers like Darren, John are pro bloggers and they make enough money to survive off of their blogs but what about us ? We are the “underdogs” and we do have to do something else besides blogging to keep our means rolling.
My life as a blogger isn’t easy for one. I have to constantly think about when I am going to have enough time to dedicate myself for a good post ( and if you haven’t found any good post on this blog, that’s why
). I wish I could say I blog fulltime and make enough to make a living but then again you know it, I don’t. My other job besides blogging ( I consider this blog my passion as well as a job ) - a labor worker at a printing company in the production department. That’s right. I don’t have a job where I could say I am a computer anlayst or consultant but I hope you still find my blog and my content good enough for your elite types.
A lot of times when we read a blog we automatically think the person must be a developer or a consultant and what not, but this certainly is not true in my case. I work four days a week, 12 hours and a typical day at work starts at 6 AM ( Yawwwwn ) and ends at 6 PM. So I am in there testing my physical abilities to its core trying to get the job done, 12 hours for four days every week. During that time I constantly have something in my mind, what am I going to write today? How am I going to turn visitors into subscribers, what can I do to make my blog more appealing? These are the questions that hits me for 12 hours at work.
Ohh, it’s 6 PM and now its time to get back home and start the other job which I love - Blogging. Blogging certainly isn’t easy for me, its as hard as you can imagine because I am constantly trying to balance social life, family, my other job, entertainment and blogging itself but lately blogging seems to have been my main priority which is very wrong of me. I have other priorities in life, a lot more than this blog so at times if you don’t find this blog updating for a couple days, just remember this one time I put everybody else above my blog and that’s the way it should be.
Although I have been working as a labor at a printing company I have been to college for 4 years, however, I never earned the degree and I plan to go back. My major is International Business with a Minor in Business Administration. Besides my job and blogging I have tried everything that I could to find a job or do something on my own that would make me my own boss, but so far nothing has been a success. But again, I am not a person who is going to quit so keep an eye on me cause I will succeed

I get the question from un-bloggers and technology challenged relatives all the time! What is it? or I don’t understand it!
Hey Ritu, doesn’t really matter to me who or what you are. I read a blog for the info and entertainment, if it has a bit of both then I haven’t wasted my time reading it. I have already subscribed to your feed.
Me? I use to be a web design & mutimedia tutor at a local college until September, when I finally quit for a life of IM.
Just started blogging and I feel the same way. Lucky that I have access to computers at work. Whenever I get a sudden inspiration i just can start writing a post. Turned out that those posts are the more usefull ones. When i try to think of what i could post it won`t lead to anything interesting.
Anyways i subscribed to your blog because you made quite some interesting stuff up such as the “what makes me subscribe to a block post.
@lenzo
I feel the same way. To me it doesn’t matter what the blogger does besides blogging, thats his own business. But a lot of times it seems like readers judge a bloggers ability to blog because of what field or profession they are in.
@Norman
I wish I had access to the computer at work. Like I said I am a laborer, its aphysical job, stand and do stuff for 12 hours. I would love it if I could find a job where I would have access to the computer.
Also, the post ” what makes me subscribe to a blog post ” was a guest post written by turtie and you can visit his blog at http://quach.blinkdagger.com/.
Thanx for subscribing to my feeds
Hey,
I’m a Sales Manager at a Sales/Lease office for leasing furniture, electronics and appliances to corporate/residential clients.
I work 50 hours a week, so that definitely puts a strain on my i-Life. Plus the social balance as well, and I have more projects online than just a blog.
I do, however; find that I can have inspirational thoughts while I’m in the middle of a phone conversation at work or just doing something random. I try to jot those ideas down on a sticky note and leave it in my wallet for the day.
It’s hard to concentrate on blogging at work though, since I have to multi-task so much and am constantly doing something. Ah well, maybe one day
This was just what I needed to read. Have been having trouble coming up with a topic today, but this post inspired me. Thank you!
interesting post! most bloggers like to keep their personal life private, so I applaud you adding a personal touch to your blog. shows us that you’re not just a robot behind a keyboard. as for me, I’m an engineer at a defense contractor. keep up the great work. we shall succeed together!
I don’t think bloggers should hide behind their computer. I want to be able integrate my life and ambitions with my site/blog.
I’ll let any know that I work as a Admin Assistant ‘right now’ and they say “right now? are you looking for another job?” - “No just need to pay my bills”, but I don’t plan on having this as my lifetime career.
I have ambitions to become a pro-photographer and I like computers and the Internet, So I want to merge the two by building a user-friendly website with a blog and forum and the whole 9-yards… but its only just begining. I’ve spent so muuch time learning and developing my website template and researching hosting and site add-ons and talking to other bloggers on blog community that its almost literately my “at-home-part-time-job”
Thank you,
Emily

yep, my job keeps the money coming in.
the day i blog for money is the day i call it a job. work. i do it because its fun, i love reading other people’s opinions and i love to write. i never expect to earn money from blogging alone. i love it to much to call it work.
I own blogger school and for a living i drive a cement mixer this has nothing to do with blogging it self.So i put together a commercial driver training blog to teach other how to drive a truck that I want out of.
Blogger School radio just got featured on the home page of blog talk radio this is good new for the blogger in me.
Ritu, I’m touched by your post. The fact that you’re doing a manual job and yet you love to blog (or rather write) is a good thing. You write well enough. Just write whenever you can to hone in your skill. It will put you in good stead further down the road. Keep your focus right and you’ll do fine. I’m also a part-time blogger.
Hey Ritu, cool post! I’m a musician and I’d say my ‘day job’ is blogger/writer/designer.
I can totally relate to what you wrote about balancing family, job, social life and blogging. All these can eat up quite a lot of time, one really has to find balance.
As for the blogging income, I’m way behind Darren and John Chow, that’s why I design blogs, you kinda have to diversify your revenue sources, same with traffic, putting all your eggs in the same basket doesn’t work really good for me,
We just have to blog cause we love it, not cause of the money, when you’re passionate enough, money will come
my 3 cents
Scot,
I bet you come across a lot of things on your day job as a Sales Manager that inspires you to blog about something. And multitasking is something I can’t do very well, although I try.
A blog about Nothing,
Glad this post inspired you. It makes me feel I wrote something worth reading for you
turtie,
First and foremost, thanx for the guest post. That was a very informatinal post that you wrote on how we can get subscribers. And yes we all bloggers should let our readers know who we are, I got nothing to hide
Emily,
I wish you all the sucess in the world in becoming a pro photographers and with your other ventures. Everything has a beginning and you are on your way, kudos for beginning cause’ most people leave it just as a thought.
natural,
I love blogging and if it can be something that I can earn living from as well, I would be like a kid in a toy store. If i can ever earn a living from blogging then I could finally say ” I love my job. ”
John,,
Congratulations on having BloggerSchool radio being featured on blog talk radio. Also, the fact that you are using your blog to teach others on what you do and how you do in itself is praise worthy, Kudos!
Mark,
Thank you for the kind words and yes I will keep writing cause I love to write.
Jon,
Very true Jon, we can’t really expect something to grow overnight. And if we keep doing what we do, the money will follow. Lets make the money run after us rather than the other way around.
Hey Ritu,
Doesn’t matter what you do in real life so long as your blog posts are up to scratch. We read this blog for the posts, not because of what you do as a profession.
Besides, having a job where your body is busy but you mind is relatively free is probably a bonus. It gives you time to work on your blog posts. One of the reasons I enjoy driving on long, boring roads is it frees up the mind to think about other things and be a bit more creative.
Keep up the good work!
Paul,
Actually, I never looked at it that way. I do think a lot at work to come up with something to write about as most of the time my mind is free and body is busy. Good way to look at my job
The best advice I can give you (from personal experience) is to keep at it. If you’re really passionate about it, you’ll be successful. It just takes time.
I saved up as much money as I could and then quit my day job to blog full time. It took about a year to get to the point where I can *almost* get by each month without dipping into savings - and that’s not to mention a serious change in lifestyle (own apt. vs. shared with roommates, no more widescreen hdtv, public transit instead of taxi’s etc).
But I love doing it, so it’s entirely worth it. Well that and I don’t have to wear a $#@*&!! tie any more.
Ross,
Exactly! We have got to give up something to gain something and if that’s what creates peace of mind and provides happiness, why not?
I don’t mind wearing a tie though, don’t get to wear it very often
Hi Ritu,
I read blogs because I find the content interesting, not because of who the person is or what they do when they are not blogging.
I work as an IT support engineer at a manufacturing company, but just because I work with computers doesn’t make me a better or worse blogger than anyone else.
I think it’s important that you fit in the rest of your life and don’t get hung up on having to post every day, just because that’s what’s expected of a blogger.
Regards,
Ian
I just started blogging too, about my personal life. I can’t do diary, because that’s what girls do, so I blog about my school, friends, weekends, and interests. Anyway, keep on the good work.
