Tips On Generating Links - My Way
Hi! It seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! Feel free to leave comments on posts!
As bloggers we all know how important it has become to build quality one way links to our blogs. Here are some of the ways I have implemented towards building links that I thought I would share. The entire purpose of this article is to share my technique and tips on link building and gain some from the readers as well. Some of these tips might be unheard of but they have certainly proved to be very effective.
Sponsor Popular Blogs
One of the best ways to get links from popular blogs is to become a sponsor when they have contests and so on. If you are to buy a link from a popular blog it would easily cost you hundreds of dollars. Instead when they are running contests, offer to become a sponsor for their contest. It doesn’t have to be anything big. It can be as low as ten dollars. This is exactly how I got a link from Shoemoney , a very popular blog with a PR of 6.
Shoemoney and John Chow are having a RSS contest to see who can get more subscribers to their feeds. They both offered prizes to subscribers and obviously they needed sponsors. I emailed and offered $25.00 to one person who subscribes to shoemoney’s feeds. Well, somebody won that $25.00 and I got my link for really cheap. Here is the link if you would like to check it out Get One way links by sponsoring
Social Networking Sites
I can’t believe how many people ignore the impact of social networking sites when it comes to link building. If you use MySpace and other networking sites, you must have used the blog section within your page. Make full use of this service. Everytime you write a post on your own blog go ahead and post it on your myspace blog as well. On MySpace blog, write a brief introduction about your latest post and then redirect the visitors with the link to your actual post. Do this everytime and see your links build up. Also when commenting friends and family ( remember friends and family , dont be a spammer ), try and leave your URL at the bottom. This can significantly build your link count and technorati authority.
Please note that if you leave your blog URL ( www.worknplay.net ) everytime, it will count it only once since it has been already linked through myspace page. So try and link to your posts because every posts has a different address ( http://worknplay.net/tips-on-generating-traffic-my-way/ ) so the myspace page will take it as a new link everytime. Please use this strictly through your blog section on myspace and other networking sites. Also when you comment and use your post link at the bottom, do it only to friends and family who won’t mind. No Spamming!
Be A Private Beta Tester
This can also be a very effective way of getting good one way links. If you know of sites that are on private beta go ahead and sign up using your email address. They will send you an invite and you can write about them on your blog and create some buzz for them. I did this for cre8buzz.com when it went public and got a link from them as well. Not to say I wrote all about cre8buzz just for the link, i love the site, but this can be one effective way of getting links as well. Here is the one I got Help them and get a link
Invite Others To Become Private Beta Testers
Now that you have got an invite and are trying the site which is still under private beta testing, go ahead and invite others as well and expose them to the new services. If they like it, they might give you a link as well. I got that from SmartWealthyRich, a PR 5 blog. Here is the link Thank you Jon
Comment On Popular Blogs
Everybody knows this one pretty well. Try and comment on popular blogs as people have a tendency to click on your name when you make a comment which is linked to your blog or website ( if you posted the link on the form ).
A lot of people ignore this but this can significantly boost your traffic and link count as well. If other commentators who land on your blog through your comments like what you write they might link to your posts as well, so try this. Make sure not to spam the comment section. Comments should be used as an interaction medium between the blogger and reader so write comments related to the posts, No Spam!
Participate in Forums and Discussions
Be active in forums and discussions. When you post a thread on any forum or discussion site use your URL as a signature. Also once in a while write about your posts on forums and link to your post. Make sure to write an intro of your post so as to allow other members to analyze whether or not they will be interested in reading that particular post. Using your URL as a signature is fine but posting your posts on a thread should not be very often as this can seen as spam.
Contests, Contests, Contests
I can’t stress enough about contests, especially on popular blogs like Problogger. Darren Rowse on problogger runs a lot of contests. Recently there was a contest on who can come up with the best slogan for blogs that got hit by Google Pagerank. I submitted mine but didn’t win. The blog that won, guess what they got? Yes, a link from one of the most popular blogs on the internet. Here is the contest. Look at the number of people that commented ( 144 comments ), why do you think they did that? Because when they get a link from Problogger on a post your traffic is bound to soar and its a very valuable link. Check out the contest winner who got the link
Give Away One Way Links From Your Blog
Yup, I know, you would like to earn money doing that. But remember, charity pays off. Once in a while appreciate your readers and if they have a blog give them some link love. This is what I did and in return I gained some readers and probably some links that I haven’t checked yet
So, there you go. these are some of my ways I have been building links. If you have any that you would like to share please use the comment form to share with me and other readers on how we can all build quality one way links.

Very informative post. I’m a newbie blogger and for the last couple of weeks I’ve seen my growth stunted because I ran out of family and friends to link too!! So now, I’m looking for more ways to increase my traffic, and I’ve found some great ideas.
In particular, I found the blurb on contests pretty interesting and I will certainly look into it. Will be coming back here and there to pick up more tips.
My only question is on technatori . . . not sure how it works, but how does it build your authority by leaving your link at the bottom?
Also, how do you find out more about these so called “contests?”
Oh, btw, have you tried the “Share This” wordpress plugin?
Pretty nifty plugin, and can be found here
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/share-this/
sorry for adding links to the comments section!
Here is a link I found on technorati authority http://asia.cnet.com/blogs/lemaklemang/post.htm?id=62011158.
Also everytime you get a link from a blog it will be counted by technorati and Myspace blog and other networking sites blogs can be used for this purpose as well.
About the contests, the best way to do is visit popular blogs everyday. Blogs that are popular always have some kind of contests going on every now and then. Also here is a link that shows contests http://blog-contests.net/. I am not sure how relevant or useful the link is as I quick googled it for you. Just try and google ” Blog contests ” on google and you should have some options to browse through
Also, I don’t mind links as long as they are helpful and not self promotion
Good points there Ritu (and I’m always happy to link out hehe)
One thing to keep in mind though, when you participate in contests or offer to be a sponsor or something, it’s true it costs less than buying an ad spot. But usually when the blogger links back to you, he/she also links to tons of other blogs. For instance a link on Shoemoney is awesome, but if there’s 25-30 other links on this page, each weighs less. On the other hand if your link is the only one on that page, that’s awesome!
Thanks for the tips I am getting traffic from many sources butI should look for contests now I guess.
nice points ritu…
however when it comes to sponsoring contests, I would choose someone who doesn’t have a very big contest going on… i mean consider probloggers anniversary giveaways.. he had so many sponsors n i don remember even one of them for precisely that reason… i dont want to spend money and compete with hundreds of others for eyeballs… not sayign its bad to sponsor contests.. just that one has to choose wisely…
