Where Do You Hide?

Hi! It seems you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting! Feel free to leave comments on posts!

We all need some time to be alone. Especially if you are a blogger stuck in front of the computer for hours, a hideout away from it is much needed. As for me, I hide in the basement. Call me crazy but this is how I get out of the daily stress of blogging. I know it sounds a bit ridiculous and may be a little creepy as well. As bloggers, we all have times when we just want to get away from the DAMN computer and find a place where there is nothing to bother or stress us out. To me it’s my unfinished basement.

A blogger’s life isn’t as easy and relaxed as most people imagine. The stress of having to update a blog regularly alone can cause a person heart attack ( ok, thats an exaggeration ), and besides blogging we all do have other committments like family, job, social life and a little TV time ofcourse. This post reflects as to where my private sanctuary is, where is my heaven or where I find the peace of mind to just not worry about a thing. You guessed it right - My basement.

Lately, I find myself sneaking downstairs to my basement a lot. After I have been stressed out on the computer for hours dealing with the fact that I am not getting where I would like to be and working on different projects, I certainly need some deserved alone time. Not to mention the stress after you have stumbled and dugg couple articles, talked on MySpace for a while, tinkered with Facebook for hours, participated on couple forums and ofcourse checked out ebay’s most wanted items, I need the time to relax and this is where the creepy basement comes in handy.

Yeah, yeah! Most of you think what’s the pleasure in a basement that is not finished and creepy and all that. The fact that it is unfinished and a storage gives me a peace of mind. I am a cleanliness freak ( except when it comes to the basement ), so when I go down there I don’t give a damn about anything but laying down on the old rugged carpet and just relaxing. I take two of my best friends along with me - a pack of cigerette ( if you don’t find this blog updating for couple days, be assured that I am either in a hospital coughing my lungs out or I just died. In case of death I will have my wife post something to notify you ;-) ) and a bottle of coke ( uhhh Coca Cola, before you assume anything else ).

The pleasure of being there is the fact that it is creepy. Nobody in my family likes to or shall i say ” dares ” to come down there because its creepy. I look at all the mess and I don’t care although I am a cleanliness freak because I think ” hey, its a storage ” and all I do is go and laydown on the good old rugged carpet. This is my sanctuary, this is my get away, this is where I relax and forget about the blog, the stats, the networking, commenting and the posting. This is my heaven, this is my private sanctuary, this is where I hide. So, if you haven’t been using that creepy old unfinished basement, clean one part of it for yourself and give it a try, trust me you will love it. The fun part is nobody will come downstairs to bother you.

Share your hide outs with us, if you have one.

  1. I did actually find your hiding place creepy, but you did make me laugh insanely when you said “Lately, I find myself sneaking downstairs to my basement a lot”.

I almost woke the missus with my laughter, then I would of been scarpering off to my hiding place which to happens to be a fantastic woodland only 5 minutes from my door.

I also liike to disappear to the bathroom, lock the door and have a long bath when I get stressed, need or break or can’t string two words together.

I really enjoyed this post and find a lot of what you wrote in common with myself, except the basement of course.

Bookmarked you, gave you a Thumbs Up and will be back soon.

Good luck and keep up the good work.

ps You should give up before its too late.

  2. LOL This is just to funny, thankyou Ritu for brightening up my day.

Me, I don’t need to hide away ‘cos I don’t take it that seriously, but I am serious about it if you know what I mean. If I don’t post, so be it, I don’t let it get me down.

I am glad this post helped you a little with your day. I am just one of those persons who puts in a lot of effort in what he does. Its good at times and then again it’s a constant stress as well. Oh Well!

I tried going to the gym for a while. man, you had to see me. I used to get all pumped up in Minnesota winter to go to the gym. But I got over that and now the creepy basement replaced the gym. Fine with me :-)

  5. Oh you reminded me of the good old days when our basement was unfinished as well. Now it’s finished and more like a den.

I have three small children and a small house so I don’t have much of a sanctuary. In times of intense stress, I do go into the basement, into the laundry room which has a bathroom with a lock on the door.

I sneak down, quietly shut the door behind me, lock it and sit on the rug in the dark. I can only do this for about five minutes at a time — while my husband is home — otherwise they send out the search party.

I also have a Timex Indiglo watch, so I can see what time it is, in the dark, without turning on the light.

I guess you gotta find the silver lining where ever you can, right?

  6. Ritub,
Never knew that spending too much time blogging has its own pressure too.

My husband is always fighting to use our personal computer and I don’t blog on my work computer. So I guess I have not blog enough to take a break from it.

  7. […] humane side of the blogger. Ritu has done a pretty good job of keeping it real with his recent post Where Do You Hide? Personally, I like to see character and personality within the blogs that I read on a daily basis. […]
