Your Blog, Your Media

Why do you think a lot of start up companies and web services have started integrating blogs as their major source of marketing? Because their blog becomes their own media, a way for them to personally connect to their targeted customers. I feel that anybody who offers a service, be it a freelancer or somebody who just sells stuff on ebay needs to have a blog. A blog serves a purpose for you as it becomes your own media. Think about it, if Jeremy from Shoemoney wants to offer service or sell something, do you really think he needs to spend a dime to advertise? I don’t think so. His blog alone will bring him enough customers and again most of them being blogger themselves, if they write about it on their blogs, it becomes viral marketing.

So why is your blog your own media? Because,

1. You Have Your Own Audience

With your blog you already have established your audience - your readers. If your blog attracts good traffic and has a lot of subscribers you already have a certain number of people you will be exposing your service or product to. It provides a sense of attachment to the consumers ( readers ) since they know you as a blogger and have been connecting with you personally by means of comments. So, your service or product already has potential customers lined up for you.

2. You Are The Spokesperson

If I have a product to sell , I wouldn’t want anybody but me to speak about it. This is another benefit of having a blog as it is your media and you are the spokesperson. The readers you have been connecting to through your posts and articles will be willing to listen to what you have to offer. They like what you write, how you express. So when you speak about your product or service to them through your blog, it’s most likely that they will get more information about it from you than anybody else.

3. You Already Have A Targeted Market

When you started your very own blog, you probably didn’t think of a targeted market unless your blog has a certain niche it is build upon. But as you keep blogging you will see you have gained readers ( customers ) from a certain demographics. This allows you to instantly have a targeted market ready for your service. But again, if you blog about computers and programming , don’t go selling John Deer tractors, that certainly won’t work.

4. You Know Your Product Is Better Than Anybody Else’s

When you write about your product or service you will write it inside out because there is nobody else who knows it better than you. You are the one who is offering the service and or product and there is certainly no one better than you to explain why it is good for them. You will be passionate when you talk about it. This will connect the readers to you as they feel its genuine and as long as you want them coming back both as a reader and a customer, BE GENUINE.

5. Your Audience Knows You Personally ( in most cases )

You probably have built a personal relationship with most of your readers. They know you through your posts and you know them through their comments or their blogs and in some cases personally. If you know you readers personally it’s a win win situation. If they are somebody who knows you and knows what you provide and do are beneficial to them, don’t you think they would offer you the money rather than somebody else? You bet they will.

So what do you think? Do you agree or disagree? How do you support your views on whether or not your blog can act as your own media.

  1. Blogging and Marketing go hand in hand and I think people are starting to realize this. Blogging will just continue to get bigger and bigger!!! Are you going to be advertising any products or services on your blog in the near future Ritu?

  2. I can agree with what you’re saying. A blog is also a more informal type of media that is more appealing to a lot of people. They don’t feel like they’re being sold so much as being made aware of a new product or service.

  3. We use a blog on our website http://blog.globalbusinessnetworking.com. It’s a much more informal way to talk to people, plus you can give an idea of what’s being worked in in the background. It’s like the difference between a formal presentation and a drink in the bar - one’s formal, one’s relaxed and different things can be said in different places.

I like the way you put it ” drink in the bar “. Its true though, like I said above its a very informal and personal way for people to interact. By the way, I am loving globabusinessnetworking. I just have to wait and see how much business it will bring to this blog
